Computer Science at Howard University
Code in the classroom
In the Fall of 2013, we worked with the Google Creative Lab to create a set of promotional posters to drive up attendance in CS classes offered at Howard University. The posters were hung around campus and used in the classroom. The rosters filled up quickly and interest in Computer Science grew at Howard. The program was extended to 4 other HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) the following year.
We extended the visual treatment of the promotional materials to the end-of-semester Howard Hack, a hackathon involving current and prospective students. This was then expanded to include two more hackathons in DC and Atlanta.
